Current News and NoticesSummer Road Closures: Earl Shilton Town Council is very concerned by the disruption caused by the gas works. This has been a disruption to residents and has severely impacted retailers and local businesses. Negotitiations prior to the work led us to believe that the contractors would be sympathetic to the problems the road works could cause and were prepared to minimise the disruption by maintaining at least one lane of traffic. In practice these arrangements never materialised and the townspeople were left to stuggle as best they could. The residents of Park Road area on one side and Alexander Avenue on the other suffered horrific traffic conditions day after day as frustrated drivers sought routes around the roadworks. To add insult to injury the contractors installed three way traffic lights on monday 9th even though there are no teams on site and no working activity whatsoever. A total lack of planning, consultation and consideration appears to be the hallmark of this work and the council regrets the apparent indifference of the County Council and other organisations to the predicament of Earl Shilton.
PlayBuilder Award: (Update 16/08/10) - In the same boat as many other councils and projects up and down the country, we are patiently awaiting word from the Department for Education as to whether the grant money will be withdrawn. "Hundreds of playground developments are being mothballed following government spending cuts. The Department for Education (DfE) has frozen grants to 132 local councils for up to 1,300 play area schemes – many of which were originally designed by children." - (The Independent) The final design voted on by the public included climbing boulders, zip line, toddlers play area, basket swing with a flower garden and landscaping.

The 15-year-old stormed to the British team's first gold in Helsinki, winning the 400 individual medley in a British record time for her age group.
